Blood streaks in the stool can be caused by a variety of things, like hemorrhoids, anal fissures, diverticulosis, polyps or cancer.
A lower endoscopy would be the most comprehensive test to exclude the most serious causes. A flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy can be considered for further evaluation. Treatment would depend on what was found.
