Bloody Stool

by CHU, Jan 24, 2003 12:00AM
I am 46 years old, have no family history of colon cancer. A couple of months ago, I noticed a large amount of blood mixed with stool on toilet bow. I became very concern and went to see my PCP. After a three samples, and a sigmoidoscopy were given, Dr. found no blood in the stool, and nothing from the insertion. Again, yesterday I had the same problem like
the last time. I made the appointment with the rectal specialist next month. I am worry why it happens again? and I recently feel my lower back in pain sometime. Is this sign of colon cancer? because if it's hemorroid, or polyp then the Doctor should have found it when the test being done. I am very appreciated.

Hrmmm.. u don't mention what color the blood is.  If the blood is red, then its most likely that the blood is coming from the lower portion of ur colon and the sigmoidoscopy should have caught anything in that area.. unless its internal hemmorhoids which could quite possibly be causing ur problem.  U may have no symptoms of the internal hemmorhoids except for the blood.. i know this because i had the same thing and had to go for all sorts of tests and there was DEFINATE blood in my stool for months and nothing was ever found.
If the blood is purplish or black in color.. the blood is coming from higher up in ur colon and u will need a colonoscopy to find the source of the problem.  Try not to worry about colon cancer.. especially because u have no history and u had a clean sigmoidoscopy.  I know its nerve racking to have this sort of symptom and have no answers, but just remember that the least likely thing it will turn out to be is cancer.. i'm goign with the internal hemmorhoids ;-p
good luck to u and feel free to ask anymore questions.

Thank you for your comment that is extremely valuable. My Rectal specialist found the hemmeroid after exam. He,however, schedules colonoscopy for me to make sure that it's ok before He begins to treat my hemmeroid. I forgot to detail my symtom last time. A lot of red blood, and blood clot that I can see. What I was concern is the blood clot.
