Bloody diarrhea connected with other skin/nasal infection?

by Frank__0, Oct 14, 1998 12:00AM

Over the past 1.5 years, I've developed these problems in this order, but before was perfectly healthy...
Some type of infection in my eyebrow, itchy, caused yellowish oily/crusty substance... several weeks later, moved down to eye, eye completely red for a week, weeks later I had 2 weeks of nosebleeds every day from the same side of nostril as infected eye... several months later have many bouts of bloddy diarrhea, doctor suggests ulcerative colitis, but I keep bouncing back & forth between eye infection, nosebleeds, and bloody diarrhea... also an occasional trace of blood from urinary tract...as one area seems to fight it off, the others pick up again.  Eye infection and nosebleeds seem to have yellowish crusty substance in common.  Is there a possibility these are all connected, and if so, how?  Doctor mentioned something called "Rhyders syndrome", although I can't find any info on it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Frank,
There is no connection between the crusty substance in your eyebrows and the other symptoms.  The bloody diarrhea does require investigation.  Colitis, if that is what you are ultimately found to have, can be associated with eye problems including uveitis.  It is unlikely that you have Reiters syndrome which consists of arthritis, conjunctivitis, urethritis and often diarrhea.
