Botox Therapy for Esophageal Sphincter

Botox Therapy for Esophageal Sphincter

My gastroenterologist had me go through a swallow study and a Ph impedence test.  I got a letter from him indicating that the results of the swallow study showed an abmormality and that the impedence test result indicated I was refluxing material other than acid.  He prescrived 600 milligrams of Actigall daily and scheduled me for an upper endoscopy to include a biopsy of the small intestine.  In addition, he has indicated that he wants to inject botox into my esophageal sphincter.  The gastroenterologist has not said whether I have achalasia or anything else but he says the situation is "very complicated".  Everything I'd read about regarding botox therapy for the esophageal sphincter indicates it is for achalasia.  Should I assume I have achalasia or is there something my gastroenterologist isn't telling me?

You can't assume anything until you sit down and talk with your GI person. Make an appointment to do so.
