I am a 24 yr old female with a history of good health. Within the last 9 months, I've been experiencing a burning and tightness in my upper abdomen/chest area just below my sternum. It even makes my ribs, upper sides, and back have an achy feeling. It is usually accompanied by lots of burping and sometimes vomiting if it gets bad enough. It starts with a bloating feeling in my chest and upper abdomen, almost like someone is inflating a balloon in my chest. After about an hour, it reverses and feels like someone is squeezing my chest. It usually happens in the afternoon and sometimes continues throughout the night. I've tried to pay attention to possible causes regarding things that I may be doing differently but nothing seems to be relevant to every episode. It only happens a couple of times a month but can sometimes occur 2-3 times within the same week. I don't have any problems swallowing nor do I notice any signs of reflux. I often find myself unconsciously eating things during an episode, even when I am not hungry and know it only makes it worse, because for some reason I feel like I need to eat something because it feels like there is a bulge or something is stuck in my upper abdomen. I am usually very tired and exhausted during an episode and run a low grade fever. I also have unexplained weight loss and I am unable to gain weight for some reason. I am currently underweight at 108 lbs and 5'4". I eat all the time and I am very careful to eat healthy foods as I have noticed that spicy foods do seem to irritate and initiate symptoms. I had a baby 11 moths ago but am not under any abnormal amounts of stress. My mom seems to think it may be my gallbladder because she had to have her gallbladder removed shortly after she gave birth to me due to the stress of pregnancy on her gallbladder. I started taking a prilosec every morning a few months ago but it has not had any affect on my symptoms. I actually had a "cocktail" of otc meds that I would take that relieved the symptoms almost completely which consisted of 1 maximum strength Pepcid AC, 3 IB Prophen tabs, and 1 tspn of Pepto, but that doesn't seem to work as well anymore if at all. It did work for about 4 or 5 months. I absolutely hate taking medicine and usually will not even take meds for a headache but I was so desperate that I would start by trying one at a time and then eventually ended up with that combination of meds that worked. My husband is extremely worried as this has persisted for some time now. Especially since I've never had this problem before. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? If so, please let me know if you have found a solution or have any suggestions. Thanks!!
