Burning and Prilosec withdrawal

by Lady, Jun 24, 2001 12:00AM
For three years I have been on Prilosec for acid reflux. Since I was not having it anymore, I stopped taking it in December, l999. In late Dec., l999, I have heart cath and about 12 weeks later, I started burning all over and turning very red on face, neck and chest. I was hospitalized for eight days with what they thought was a chemical reaction to blood pressure medications. I was put back on Prilosec and continued taking it until Dec. 2000 when I again stopped. After 4-5 weeks, I again started the burning and stomach upsets. I went back on Prilosec and after a couple of weeks, was fine.  THen the last of March this year, I had eyelid surgery and I came off Prilosec again. Once again in 4 weeks, the burning came back and also a red rash on lower legs that comes and goes within 48 hours. It does not itch or burn. My question is, can I be having rebound acid from the prilosec and could that get in my blood and cause these rashes. My doctor has performed many, many test and all were negative except my body wasn't absorbing B-12. It was 288.  I'm now on B-12 shots but they aren't doing much good.  I take Prilosec occassionally when the burning get so bad and it goes away so I know that it has something to do with withdrawal from this drug.  Do you have any suggestions. For the past 4 weeks I haven't been able to do anything but go to the doctor. My life has come to a complete standstill. My doctor knows that I am sick as he has seen the rash on legs and also spells of burning and turning very red. Please help!
