I have been having a problem with recurring diarreah since July. I was recently diagnosed as having C-diff present based on a culture, & put on my second round of the antibiotic Flagyl. What is C-Diff & how would I have been exposed to this?
C-diff is a bacteria that everyone has in their digestive system. WHen you go on an aggressive or long course of antibiotics you become more susceptible to getting the c-diff disease. It can take more than one round of treatment to knock it out .. But from my experience Flagyl is not as good as Vancomycin. I did Flagyl for a few days and it just made me even more sick than I already was! THey switched me to vancomycin and got immediate relief and after a 10 day course I kicked the c-diff! It is also important to take acidiphilus capsules (the refrigerated kind) to help replace the good bacteria in your intestines and stomach quicker to beat the c-diff. Talk to your doctor about vancomycin and acidiphilus and good luck to you. I am still not 100 percent these days though .. now Im left with IBS .. still cleaning up what the antibiotics left me with!
I had surgery recently, they removed 3 ft. of my small intestine. 4 days later they had to go back in and give me a colostomyColostomy Colostomy - series bag, because I have c-dif. They put antiboties directly into my Large intestine, and now I am on flagyl. Did you have any weight loss? I am 12 pounds lighter than when I started.
