COULD MY POLYP HAVE RETURNED ALL IS IT MORE SERIOUS

by FOXY812, Mar 09, 2006 12:00AM
LAST YEAR I WENT TO A SPECIALIST IN REGARDS TO FREQUENT CHANGES IN BOWEL HABITS, ABDOMINAL CRAMPING, BLEEDING FROM THE BOTTOM THE NEED TO PASS MOTION EXTREMELY REGULARY.
I ALSO SUFFER FROM GASTRIC REFLUX AND ACID SO I AM ON AMEPRAZOLE FOR THAT.
I WAS GIVEN A COLONOSCOPY TO CHECK INTESTINES WHICH THEY FOUND A POLYP. THEY CUT IT OUT AND TOOK A BIOPSY WHICH WAS NEGATIVE. THEY CALLED IT A RARE INFLAMMATORY POLYP THAT HAD GROWN WHICH WAS CAUSING THE PAIN AND DISCOMFORT. HE ALSO FOUND SOME HEMAROIDS AND AN ANAL FISSURE WHICH HE SAID WOULD NEED OPERATING ON. I AM THIRTY AND OVERWEIGHT EVEN THOUGH I AM FARELY FIT AND RUN 5 MILES A DAY. I USE TO PLAY A PROFESSIONAL SPORT WHICH MEANT I HAD TO STAY VERY FIT BUT DUE TO BREAKING MY LEG IN SEVERAL PLACES HAD TO QUIT 4 YEARS AGO AND HAVE PUT ON A LOT OF WEIGHT.
RECENTLY I WAS PRESCIBED SOME INFLAMMATION PILLS AFTER HAVING A VIRUS. AFTER TAKING TWO PILLS WITH IN 1 HOUR I WAS DOUBLED UP IN PAIN, DIARREAH BLOATING. I WENT BACK TO THE DOCS AND HE SAID IT WAS A REACTION TO THESE NSAIDS. HE SAID WITH MY HISTORY WITH BOWELS I SHOULD NOT BEEN GIVEN THEM AS THEY ARE PRONE TO TAKING THE LINING OF THE BOWEL AWAY.
ANYWAY SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN HAVING BAD STOMACH PAINS LOW IN MY ABDOMEN AND OF TO THE RIGHT SIDE LOW DOWN AND A BIT IN MY BACK LOW ON THE RIGHT. AT FIRST I THOUGHT RECENT INFECTION AND THOSE PILLS, THEN MAY BE APENDICITUS AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A LOT OF DIARREAH THEN SLIGHT CONSTPATION THEN DIARREAH BLEEDING, PROBABLY FROM MY YET SOLVED ANAL FISSURE AND HEMM. I AM STARTING TO WONDER WHAT IS THE PROBLEM OR COULD IT BE A REPEAT OF WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE WITH THE POLYP. IS IT USUAL TO HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM SO SOON AFTER THE OTHER REMOVAL. GOING TO THE LOO DOES SEEM TO DETRACT THE PAIN TO A DULL ACHE IN AREAS OUTLINED BUT SEEMS TO RETURN QUICKLY AND THEN THE FEELING OF A FULL BOWEL COMES BACK, THIS LEEDS TO ME GOING AGAIN AN AGAIN WHICH DOES NOT HELP THE HEMMAROIDS AND ANAL FISSURE FROM BLEEDING. I HAVE A GREAT APPETITE, GREAT OUTLOOK ON LIFE, I HAVE NO PALE SKIN YELLOW SKIN, INFACT THE DOCTOR ALWAYS SAYS I LOOK SO WELL AND AS I HAVENT LOST MUCH WEIGHT IT CANT BE TOO BAD. EVERY ONE SAYS IF IT IS SERIOUS YOU LOOSE WEIGHT QUICKLY. IF ANY THING I CANT STOP PUTTING IT ON EVEN WITH ALL THE RUNNING.
PLEASE CAN YOU GIVE YOUR OPINION ON WHAT YOU THING MAY BE WRONG AND ANY ADVICE TO SOLVE SITUATION.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER

It is difficult to say without evaluation.

Causes of right lower quadrant pain can include appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome.  The correlation with inconsistent bowel movements (i.e. diarrhea and constipation) can suggest the latter disease.

Depending on how the polyp was removed (endoscopic vs surgical), it may be related.  With any abdominal surgery, there is the possibility of small bowel obstruction.

I would start evaluation with an abdominal CT scan.  An upper GI series with small bowel follow-through can be done to evaluate for inflammatory bowel disease.  Finally, an ultrasound can be considered to look at the liver and gallbladder.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
