Can Liver Problems cause headaches?

by Kelly H, Dec 12, 1999 12:00AM
I have been suffering from constant 'pressure' type headaches for almost 2 years now. I have been to numerous doctors and tried almost every medicine to no avail. A couple of weeks ago I met with a doctor who deals with all problems with a natural approach. He suggested that some headaches can be caused by liver problems. He suggests that this happens due to the liver not removing toxins from my system. I'm curious to know if this is possible.

I figured I had nothing to lose, except pain, by speaking with him. I have not yet started any thearpy with him, as I am waiting for detailed instructions.

Thank you for your time and this wonderful service.

Dear Kelly,
The traditional medical literature does not describe an association between liver disease and headache.  Patients with severe, clinically, evident liver disease may have neurologic problems but that does not appear to be your case.

Kelly, have you had an MRI done to see if it raises any possibilities?

Otherwise, your body may be too toxic, and the toxicity may be part of what is causing your headaches.

I can make some herbal recommendations which may help your situation. Let me know if I can help.

Cheers,

My son (13) has been told he has platelete
dysfunction blood diorder. Can you give me more
information about this. It took 16 months to
figure out---he had bleeding through his rectum and had 3 colonscopies and many other test until a blood doctor ran a platelete function
test and discovered this. We just cant find much information out there on this. He gave Allen a nose spray to use after bleeding but he's still tired and has headaches. His blood levels were  better almost normal except for his white count is at 3.2. That's not bad but its hasnt been any better than that in the last 16 months. Thank you for any information you can give us.

To ted hinkle

give your son green barley and wheatgrass juice. you can buy it
at any health food store.  i have seen it work wonders on friends
that were getting chemo for cancer. doctors told them that their
platelet count was higher than a normal person after numerous
treatments.  also an uncle of mine has leukemia and his white
cell count was way below normal.  the juice has corrected that.
have your son take one teaspoon in a glass of pure water three
times daily.  good luck.

i was taken in to hospital after severe colic attack and found on ultrasound to have 3 gallstones but my liver enzymes were on arrival 10 times normal level and they were worried gallstones were red herring.  24hours later levels dropped by half and i was released and referred to clinic in 2 weeks to check levels have returned.   i am really worried due to the questions on liverish condition   i do not drink or take narcotics  but was prescribed water retention tablets following hysterectomy 17 yrs ago and take them daily also take regular co codomol for headaches   have i damaged my liver this is what is worrying me
