Can hard coughing cause a significant, persistent change in reflux

Following an episode of hard coughing due to bronchitus (bronchitis) I have been having a persistent and painful sore throat, usually worse at night and in the mornings. I have a hyatal hernia and Barrett's Esophagus. The infection appears to be gone but I continue to have problems with chest congestion. Is it likely that I could have further damaged the hernia to the point where reflux is not being controlled?
