Can't find out

by question88, Oct 05, 2005 12:00AM
I started having terrible diarrhea in May, at the end of June the doctors found I had C-diff Toxin A & B and was B12 dificient. I took Flagel (sp?...it was terrible. This is now October, I don't have watery diarrhea, I have to go to the bathroom sometimes once, but usually 3 or more times a day. The stools are peanut butter colored, soft but have form.  I have gas, and most of the time feel like I have to go again.  I do not have C-diff or giardia, cryptosporid,or salmonella, shigella, campy, yesinia or e-coli (was tested for all.  I want to stop feeling this way!! I teach and it is hard for me to go to the bathroom all the time.  ANy ideas??

Flagyl is normally the initial treatment for C Diff.  I would assume a re-test was perform to ensure that the bacteria was eradicated.

If the symptoms continue, you may want to consider further testing to ensure a more chronic disease isn't present that can lead to the continued diarrhea.  Irritable bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease, as well as some GI tumors can also lead to chronic diarrhea.  An endoscopy - either a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy - would be the most comprehensive test to consider at this time.

I would discuss this option with your personal physician or gastroenterologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

By the way I am 50 years old. Had a colonoscopy..that is where I got the other results.  They said there is no cancer.
