Change of Stool

by puzzle, Nov 04, 2001 12:00AM
I am hoping someone or knows someone who have this problem.  I am a 40 yrs old female.  Two months ago, I noticed my stools pattern has changed.  I do not have problem with my bowel movement all these years - it has always been soft which I attributed it to lots of water taken.  2 months ago, I started to develop constipation and when it did not improve, I when for a colonyscope and the Doctor found small polyps which I am told to be watchful but they were not the cause of my "constipation" problem.  He advised me to drink lots of water (I did), take lots of fibre ( I did) and take more yogurt/good bacteria stuff (I did). Now,  I am able to have a bowel movement everymorning but my stools are not the same anymore - it is more like pellets form and take a bit of energy to expel them!  There is no change to my diet and I am still drinking the same amount of water.  I eat brown rice for dinner!

Can anyone explain what is happening ? Could it be that I am at the age of likely menopause causing hormonal changes to my system?  Is there any other possible causes that someone knows?  This is worrying me.  Thanks so much for listening.

try doing a colon cleans ABC colon cleans is agood one the vitamin shop sells it , or a health food store. take some good pro biotics daily to keep your intestines in good shape . try not to eat the rice for a while because that can constipate u. and if your taking vitamins make sure u are taking a non constipating iron suppliment.

when the gastro doc found the polyps did he remove them ?

Yes, MaryAnn the polyps were removed and the biopsy diagnosis was " columnar cells with mild dysplasia" and since this means possibility of turning cancerous, the Dr advised me to go for a yearly colonoscopy until they have disappeared.  Apparently these polyps were not the cause of my change of stools pattern.  So that's why I am quite concerned whether there is any other possible cause.

i am glad to hear that they removed them there for a moment i thought all he was going to do was keep a watchful eye on them (that was a relief to hear )the other thing did he sugest any other possible problems such as chrons ,diverticuloses, hemmrhoids, ibs, fibroid myalgia, colitis, spastic colon etc.  you said the polyps were not at the root of  your bowel problem .the fact is something has to be causing this. digestive problems do not just happen with out cause .maybe there is some other test he can run to rule out other possible conditions such as ultra sound ,barium ,ct scan etc.i would ask him to look into it futher, or get a second opion on the colon scope to see if maybe something was missed.i wish you well and god bless.
