Cholecystectomy problems

by zarqmum, Feb 18, 2009 06:42AM
Hi there,

I had my gallbladder out 5 days ago. When I awoke post op I had unbearable pain under my ribs, right where my gallbladder was taken from. Morphine didn't even touch the pain. Instead of being released same day I was released the next day. The surgeon was annoyed by my pain, and suggested I just had a low pain threshold because my surgery "couldn't have gone more perfectly" In fact she said it was one of the easiest removals she's done in a long time. I found this hard to believe since I have had 4 children, 2 by c-section and never required more than Ibuprofen for pain.

The pain has subsided slightly, but still I feel like I have a golf ball under my ribs. It hurts mostly to take deep breaths and when I'm standing. I have not had any pain in 3 of my 4 incisions, it just seems to be the one that hurts but it only hurts on the inside if that makes sense. I have no fever, don't have much of an appetite but I can eat and drink without major problems, just a very full feeling in my chest.

Because of the surgeon's initial reaction, I'm having a hard time calling her. In one sense I'm wondering if maybe I do have a low pain threshold.

I appreciate any advice you can offer.
