Chronic Constipation and Swollen Glands

Hey all,

I have been constipated since around November of 2005.  There are times when it is really bad and I feel the need to pass stool but cannot and there are times when I don't feel as bad and can pass stool relatively easily in enough time.  Regardless, my stool is very unhealthy (narrow, not very long, lightish-brown),  I have tried a lot with my diet.  Gave up drinking for 2 weeks, tried vegetarian, tried strictly fiber...nothing.  I am only 23 years old and a male so IBS would seem rare.  Also, I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck for about 6 months (at least 6 months since I noticed the one on my left side and 3 since I noticed the one on my right).  They however aren't sore to the touch and I only notice them when I "give myself a double chin" by putting in my cheeks and pressing down firmly to feel them.  I went to my doctor a few months ago and he brushed off both symptoms without real explanation.  Also of note, I was treated for sever throat pain back in December (bloodwork had my white cell count up so they assumed it was viral but still gave me a z-pack).  Am I fighting something or am I just unhealthy?  Thanks for any help!

This problem has persisted for months and you didn't go back to your doctor?  You obviously have some sort of infection going with the swollen lymph nodes, so get back to your doc.

one more note...recently the mucus in my stool has had traces of what I believe is blood in it.  The blood isn't actually in the stool itself but lined in the mucus separate from the stool

also as a followup....regarding my drinking....I drink often but not a lot.  Every once and a while I will have "too much" to drink and feel the effects the next day but on a general week in the last 2 years I have had a beer or a glass of wine a night (sometimes 2) and a little more on weekends.  Is this possible early stages of a liver problem that may be fixable if I erase alcohol all together or if I stop for quite a while?

Thanks again
