Chronic Constipation

For the past three months I havn't had a BM on my own. I have to use Milk of magnesia and its the only thing that works. I don't want to have to depend on laxatives because I'm only 25. I want to be able to get my bowels back to normal. I have been to the GI specialist and had every possiblity ruled out. He and my primary said I have Irritable bowel syndrome. I could go two weeks and not have a BM or who knows maybe even longer. I have a great diet. I did have a jaw surgery June 30. I was on a liquid diet for a month and than soft food for two weeks and in the begining of Aug. this all started. I get bloating and the other discomforts of constipation. My doctors keep saying take a laxative and it's not helping. It seems like they don't know how to help me. My diet has been normal for a month. Before the surgey I never had any of these problems. I don't know if that could have something to do with this. Any input.

IBs is a rule out term...it means when there is no known oraganic disease the its IBS...its characterized by loose motion, constipation, abdominal pain especially after eating and a desire to pass stool after eating...pain is releived after evacuation.
in your case you should not use any laxative cause they cause dependency.
you should eat a high fibre diet mainly fruits and vegitables...a lot of water especially after food...exercise
artificial fibres you should also take...1 teaspoon in one glass of water before breakfast and before going to bed at night
if not better you can increase the fibre amount
it doesnt have any side effect and will not produce dependency

hi, i personally dont believe in ibs, its just a quick way to send patients home when the doctors cant be bothered or simply dont know, obviously something is irritating the digestive system so they should look for the irritabililty not just name it and leave it. anyway for your situation i think its the food combination thats not sitting well with your digestive system, heres where to find a possible cure for you and others like you- look up sherry brescia on the net, its free, cheers.
