Chronic Diarrhea after some meals

by gomes35, Apr 01, 2005 12:00AM
Dear Sirs, fistr of sory if my english it´s not good:I´m Portuguese, living in Portugal.---The question is: For almost five years, i start to have diarrehea just ever after the meals.
I´M 37 years old. I´ve done all the tests(examinations)unless breath test, wich i´m waitting for be called from the public hopital to do that and the camera test going by the intestinal sistems. I´ve no abdominal pains, no loss of wheight,no anemia;etc. Wht is strange, it´s that ever i need take antibiothics for some diferent causes, like ear pain (amoxxicilina), or other situations(smtp),(fluorquinolona), all the symptoms stoped and i had no problems at all!!!Even the stool change their colour! I stoped to feel the food (like a fermentation)just 15 or 30 minutes after eating, had to go urgent to the bathroom!!--Unfourtunatly, after some days of the effects of antibiothics, all the problems get back!!!!This is unbelibeble!!I´ve meet 5 doctrs none gives attention for this situation about the effects of antibiothics!! Is that possible!!- I´ve also a rapid transit, accordlling an X-ray with bario contrast!
When i´m worse, i do not tolerate so well the milk derivates, etc.And i remain a bad(like inflamated) under my abdominal!Have a lot of bloating, worsing with carbohidratos!!
Now i find that if i drink a pure orange juice in the moorning at breakfeast, i get fine during the rest of day;but i cannot eat carbohidrats(Italian food), soap(puré of potatoes, etc; Otherwise i get go to the toillet after a while!
The doctor i reach now is goig to make the breath test and the examination of small bowel with that camera sistem.Í´m also stopping with sugar on the coffes, in spite of had made glicose bleed test and is negative.

What is your opinion about?? Isn´nt strange the matter of the anthibiotics staff doing me like new, withou even feeling the food inside me organism? Or is there normal?

One of the doctors had said IBS! But i have allways diarrhea, and the the symptoms stopped in those casual occasions because of others matters!

My subjective feelling is that this have to do with some kind of bacterias, in spite of having no fever, etc.

I would appreciated you comments in order to help me, i have faith in your experience cases in investigations intint to help people with problemms.

Thank you and regards,

Tough to say without examination.  A possibility would include some sort of malabsorption syndrome - especially if the diarrhea occurs after eating.  You can consider sending the stool off to test for fat malabsorption, as well as blood tests looking for celiac disease.

You can also be tested for carbohydrate malabsorption - which will likely involve a breath test.  This certainly can be considered in light of your lactose intolerance to milk.

Inflammatory bowel disease can also cause chronic diarrhea, and a lower endoscopy would be the first step in diagnosing this condition.

I would discuss these options with your personal physician, or in conjunction with a gastroenterologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

To: Dr.
Dear Drº

I,ve made a clicose breath test, looking for hydrogen increase, and it´s negative.
Next i´ll make the orocecal breath test, wich i don´t know what it´s the point?!!

What i can tell it´s that my problems are between 30 minutes to an hour for going urgent to the toillet...

Also i noticed if i drink orange juice in the moorning and avoiding those kind of lactose cakes, etc, i get better.

I do get better if take an aspirine!

When i eat maccarroni even whithout natas sauce, i get a some gas and, after two hour must go evacuate.

If i drink whine at the meals, i don´t get worst, by the contrary,it avoids goig the bathroom!!!

This is very strange, isn´t it?

Apreciated your opinion!!!

Than and best regards

sounds to me like a food allergy. I had problems with post nasal drip and upset digestion and by good luck tried going wheat and gluten free with instant success. Improvement came on the first day. Then i started checking everything I ate for content. Wehat and gluten free bisucits geave me probelms and they contained SOY. I have checked the soy reaction with other things. I think if you can simplify your diet and identify problem foods you will work it out. I started with "bread and water" but the bread was a problem!. You will find info on the internet about how to identify problems (start with a simple diet the works then add things and observe the results). The milk thing seems like an obvious problem for you, and who knows what else. good luck
