Chronic Diarrhea with right sided pain

I am 31 year old female with 4 children, history of Gallbladder surgery and cervical cancer (Stage 0-Cancer in situ)
Since, I had my 4th child in March of 2002 I have had chronic diarrhea with painful cramping and over the last six months it is much worse now with right sided pain(started April 22 2004), I have lost 10 pounds in the last month and a half (without trying) My appetite is awful and I am tired all the time. The right sided pain is above my hip and across from my naval. What should I be looking for and what are the possible conditions?

Chronic diarrhea can be caused by irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, malabsorption as well as some colonic turmors.  The right lower quadrant pain can be caused by the appendix, ovarian disorders, as well as the disorders previously mentioned.

First test to consider would be a colonoscopy.  A small bowel series can also be considered to further evaluate for inflammatory bowel disease.  Tests for malabsorption can be considered with a fecal fat test as well as blood tests for celiac disease.  

To further evaluate the pain an abdominal CT scan can be considered to evaluate for masses as well as the appnedix.  Ovarian disorders can be evaluated with a transvaginal ultrasound.
