Chronic Loose Stools

Chronic Loose Stools

I am not sure which category this question is meant to be in. My husband has had chronic loose stools (I mean going to the bathroom everymorning and having diarrhoea). For a three month period this year, this was also accompanied by bleeding, which he and his homeopathic doctor attributed to haemorrhoids. The bleeding has stopped, but he still has diarrhoea. The bleeding lead him to have low haematocrit (22) at which point he started Fe treatment.

He says the diarhheoa is due to stress. Apparently he has had the loose stools for 2 years or so.

I am concerned.

What do you recommend that he does? He is very fixed on his homeopathic doctor, but i am trying to convince him to go to a gastroenterologist proper.

Do you have any ideas what it could be? Could it be Coeliac disease? Crohn's?

The colon sleeps at night just like we do, and is very active first thing in the morning. Loose stools in the morning is consistant with alot of IBS sufferers. Although he can chalk up the blood in stools to hemorrhoids, when they get so bad that your almost anemic, its time to get checked out by a doctor. How old is your husband? At 50 you should get a colonoscopy anyway, so if hes anywhere close, he should get that done anway.
I would definately recommend him seeing a GP doctor, but preferably a GI specialist. His problem could be as simple as IBS, but there are other IBDs that cause these issues as well.

Hello and thanks for your comment.
I have also noticed that he coughs (like an allergic cough in the morning).
In addition, when he gets stressed he tends to have a skin condition, where his skin gets all read on his face (cheeks and midbrow).
I think a lot of it is due to stress and IBS.

Hopefully he will agree to see a GI specialist. :)
He is 40 y.o. by the way.
