Chronic Puritus Ani and mucus leakage

by Aqua8man, Aug 19, 2008 03:07PM
I have suffered from chronic puritus ani for many years but have kept in check the last two years with an herbal remedy.  Recently, I have started having a clear, odorless, muscus like substance leaking out of my rectum.  Also accompanied by extreme interal itching.  What is the mucus and why is it "leaking out" and from where it is coming?  I been reading online about possible casues and it could be a fungal or bacterail infection of the colon or small intestines.  If and when I seek medical help should I go throurgh gastrology, dermatolgy, or internal medicince?  I am a 52 year old male.  No blood in stool and bowol movements are still regular but having to go more frequently becasue not passing a lot of feces with each movement.

Intestinal candida overgrowth is possible. The only reliable diagnosis is colonoscopy with biopsy of colonic mucosa. Stool tests are useless, since candida is normal fungus in the bowel, and normal and overgrown amount of candida can't be distinguished. Treatment is with antifungal drugs. It is gastrointestinal specialist who deals with this. Please note that many doctors are reluctant to accept that candida may be the cause, since many people who actually don't have candida think that they have it and bother doctors frequently with this.

Symptoms in candida, beside mucus, itching and constipation/diarrhea are: craving for sugar and bloating. Do you have this?

1. Before visiting a doctor you can have a low-sugar diet trial. Exclude all simple sugars: fructose (all fruits, fruit juices and products with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)), glucose and artificial sweeteners, like sorbitol and xylitol (so no sweets, soda or low-calorie foods, no sugar free chewing gum), maltose (beer), alcohol, and starch (potatoes).

If it was candida, symptoms on the begining can get even WORSE, so you may feel like having hangover, sleepy, fuzzy, and this can try few days, but then it improves.

2. You can have intestinal parasites. Stool test for Ova and Parasites (O&P) is needed to find this out.

3. You may have internal hemorrhoids.
