for large villous adenoma in 2006, 18 months later I experienced a strangulated bowel obstruction and surgery was not performed for 83 hours. As a result, 20 cm of ischemic
small intestine bowel obstructions and have been to several doctors who have been unable to help me.
My question: Does running, swimming, heavy lifting, pushing or pulling put patients at increased risk for bowel obstructions if they have a lot of adhesions from colorectal
surgery? Is there any special protocol that can be implemented to help prevent these reoccurrences in regards to exercise/diet, etc. I take Mirlax twice a day for the past three years which my doctor prescribed also. Thank you very much
3 years ago and suffered from partial bowel obstruction after my surgery. Surgery was in August. I was hospitilized 3 seperate times in Sept, Oct and Nov for these issues. Even now 3 years later I still suffer from time to time, although much less severe and much less frequently. For me, I find it happens if I over eat. I tend to eat small meals throughout the day rather than 3 meals so when and if I overindulge I feel the obstuction. It feels like my intestines are twisting and I hear very loud gurgliing and hissing sounds. I usually vomit as well. When my stool is finally expelled it looks like it has been put through a cookie press...kind of like it has been formed and forced through a tube and it has ridges on it. I'm very active and I work in law enforcement and I have not noticed the problem occuring during any activity that you mentioned.
