Chronic pain

Hi there. I am currently waiting for an MRI scan (on friday) to see if my large gall stone has moved to the bile duct. I have been told that my gallbladder is to be removed using key hole surgery. However, In the meantime, I am suffering great pain. The most recent bout started yesterday at about 8pm and I am still in agony. I have been precribed Buscopan and Tramadol but neither are seeming to help. I am worried that this pain will continue till tomorrow. I have taken a day of work today, and had to do the same last week. I am an assistant teacher and cannot even think of trying to teach whilst in this amount of pain as my head is all over the place. I have not been physically sick yet but am feeling very nausious. Please can you tell me if there is a way to alleviate the pain as it is so great that I am having trouble sleeping which is making the whole thing so much worse. I look forward to your response. Regards. Julia

Thanks for the tips. really appreciate any advice at this point as when the pain occurs its almost unbareable - especially at night time when Im up and down the stairs to make more hot drinks and walk around a bit. have been told by someone at work who had their gallbladder out a few years back the she used to go to A&E when things got really bad for a morphine shot. I've not gone down that path yet, but watch this space. Cant wait for the MRI just so that it will move things along. a little nervous about it all but more hungry as I havent been able to eat anything since 8am and IM STARVING!!!!!!!!!!!! (well not starving exactly, but really really really hungry)  :-(

they could have left a small stone that has migrated into the duct,or possible pancreatits brought on from the stones...find out and get it taken care of,,,i know you know what your doing, but lets hope they find out whats wrong!

Julia,
Sorry no one has responded to you yet.  Your scan will be tomorrow, thank goodness, and you can ask THOSE people to give you pain relief until they can set up the operation.  In the meantime, take some extra Tramadol that you have, and take a very warm soak in the bath and breathe deeply while you're in there, and also keep a hot water bottle on your tummy... heat helps pain.  You can also have some soup and hot chocolate.  Hope this helps, and sorry it didn't come sooner to you.
