Clostridium difficile

I was recently diagnosed with C. Diff. after taking 1000mg of Cipro a day (for 7 days, but I only took 5 days because I felt bad on it - also I'm 5'0" tall and 92 lbs.) for an ear infection, but it took 3 GP visits, 1 GI visit and 6 ER visits to get that diagnosis; a month and a half of suffering.  I told every doc I saw about taking the antibiotic use and all my symptoms (abdominal pain, loose/green stools, dehydration), yet none of them suggested a stool sample or mentioned C. Diff.  It was my sister who told me to obtain a stool sample from my GI doc.  My question is, are doctors not well educated about C. Diff. or is it really not that common?  I would assume with the advent of stronger antibiotics, it would be quite common and easy to diagnose.  I want more awareness of C. Diff. and I think it's a conflict of interest for doctors because C. Diff. is caused by antibiotic use, and their livelihood is based around the prescription of them.
