Cognitive impairment following an esophageal spasm

by Sharon-Peny, Nov 02, 1998 12:00AM

I have chronis reflux esophagitis and spasms. After a particularly bad spasm I have cognitive impairment- I can't seem to organize my thoughts, my emotions are labile, and I say things I really would not say at other times. How is this connected?

Dear Sharon,
There is no pathological process that could explain the cognitive impairment associated with reflux.  My guess is that the distress that you fexperience is distracting and causes you to loose your train of thought etc.
