Colon/Rectal Specialist

My family MD referred me to a general surgeon to remove what turned out to be an anal fistula. Should I go to a Colon/Rectal Specialist rather than let a general surgeon who wants to operate?  My second question is, has non surgical treatment been successful for this condition?  Last question, at a minimum should I get a second opinion since the general surgeon only discussed surgery?

Find the best bariatric surgeon you can find.  Is the fistula from the colon to the anus?
Make sure that he is skilled with laproscopic surgery so that if possible it can be fixed that way.

I have chrons and had fistula, both from the small intestine leading to the large, the other to the bladder.

Best of luck and let us know how you are doing.

But no, I would go to a bariatric surgeon, they are also general surgeons so that would be able to repair.

So, do you feel pressure and pain  in the rectal area? Kind of by your tailbone and bum cheeks? Do you have abdominal and lower back pain from this?

A open sore about 1 inch away from my anus that sometimes bleeds a little.  No swelling, puss or infection.  Somtimes a little discomfort.
