Colon Surgery post surgery bowel movements?????

I am 44 years, I had Colon Surgery on 5/3/10 because of an obstruction in my lower colon due to a case of endometriosis on my uterus which caused a fibroid to fall on my rectum wall. Doctor said it was a rare case. I have the obstruction cut out and my colon reattached. I stayed in the hospital for one week and left because I was having normal bowel movements. I was released from the hospital on 5/10/10 and the moment I got home I was draining horribly from my wound, called the doctor and he had me go to his office to open the wound so now I have an open wound he said he will probably close it on May 25 after checking this week he wants it to heal from inside out. So my daughter is cleaning the wound twice a day. My problem now is that I was put on a low residue diet and after two days while home I am now constipated. I think I have not been following the diet to the max, but I am scared has anyone had this problem? I have not read about it anywhere online??? I have not have not a bowel movement for 4 days... I have read that some people have constant bowel movements up to 5 to 6 a days after a colon resection.. Help.. I dont want to feel alone. I feel like my recovery is so far away since I got the infection and I feel horribly constipated. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, yes the incision got infected it looks like its getting better by the day. It is a full open incision from my belly button to my pelvis area. When I first got a colonoscopy my gastroenterologist couldnt get the camera through so he was worried it was cancer after alot of testing they couldnt determine what it was they just said you have a stricture or a mass that's blocking your colon becuase I have alot of trouble having normal bowel movements and I was always bloated with stomach pain. So after all those test he refered me to the surgeon because he said the best option was to go in and see what it was since he thought it might be cancer. So thats why they didnt remove it through a colonoscopy. Which would of been way better than going throught this ordeal :(

I am so sorry you are enduring this. When you say "wound" is this your incision?  Was it keyhole surgery or did they open you up? Fibroids can be removed with a colonoscopy, did he explain why he had to remove part of your colon?  Did he check you for an infection? Try a stool softener and see if that helps.  There is a condition where once the bowel is operated on, it will work and stop, work and stop.  I learned this with my son.  They kept treating him for blockages, when it was his bowel working and then stopping, after colon removal.  Drink lots of fluids and see if that helps. I would also opt for a second opinion. Take care.
