A colonoscopy is a procedure where they insert a scope with a tiny camera into your rectum and up into your colon to check for any irregularities.  The patient is sedated for the procedure with a twilight drug, which lessens the discomfort and the memory of the procedure.  If done correctly, it is not too painful, and it provides the doctors with an excellent analysis of the condition of the colon and related organs.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Did you know that 1 in 500 people end up with a perforated colon after a colonoscopy???? Pretty darned high odds. I cant wait for that new "the Pill" swallow camea to come into action!!

yes, that can happen however, it all depends on the person themselve and their colon. However... the risk of that is greater than letting the risk of cancer or other abmormalties grow without knowing.... early detection is the key to any disease and sometimes have to take the risk of one problem to prevent the risk of more major problems

I have had two colonoscopies done.  I had no problems with either one.  The only drawback that I had was the gas that was produced from it.  My stomach felt bloated after the procedure.  I think it is very important for people to get these done if the doctor feels it is needed.  Alot of people say they think it will hurt, or they dont want to drink the things the day prior.  It doesnt hurt and, to be honest, the drinks are bad.  They taste terrible and you should plan to be in the bathroom the whole day prior!  But, it is worth it for your peace of mind, right?

Dont put it off.
