Colonoscopy and Diverticulitis

Can a colonoscopy be performed while you have diverticulitis, or would that be too risky - would it possibly cause a rupture?

A colonoscopy is how most diverticulitis is discovered, and yes it is safe.

They try not to do a colonoscopy if you have diverticulitis.  It is risky as it could case a rupture.  Only in extreme cases (acute Diverticulitis) will they do one.  I know because I had it done.  There is a very large difference between Diverticulitis and Diverticulosis though.
