After having some porblems I went to doctor who told me I had a hiatel hernia. Then another doctor said it was reflux. Are these the same things? Also I'm not very good at asking the right questions when I see the doctor. Can anyone tell me what the common symptoms are? I usually take over the counter stuff as when I didn't have insurance I couldn't afford the medication. It seemed to work almost as good. Every now and then the problems are very severe. It seems to affect my breathing like there is somthing I should be coughing up but just can't, Everytime I swallow (even water) it's like I'm swallowing bricks and they are just slowley creeping down my thought....this is very uncomfortable. Then there is pain that goes along with it. I'm just curious if this is normal and what I should be doing to ease these things. I've just been going to my Family Doctor...should I see some sort of specialist??

Try Gaviscon or a prescrpition drug called losec.
