Comoplications following surgery for perforated ulcer

Comoplications following surgery for perforated ulcer

My husband recently underwent emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer which had resulted in peritonitis.  Scary time but the surgery was successful (we think) and he seemed to recover.  The surgeon warned that further surgery may be required as the original perforation was stopped by use of a glue substance.    That said, now after 3 weeks he is experiencing stomach pain.  Does this mean further surgery is required?  What is the prognosis if he refuses further treatment?

Thanks

It would be difficult for any of us to tell you that further surgery would or would not be required because you don't know the 'why' of the current pain. If the glue substance is unable to seal the perforation it would mean substances he takes in will move outside of the stomach into the body and begin an infection process - periotonitis again.

Pain is the body's way of saying 'look at me, boss. I need help.' Please call your doc and make sure that your husband is seen as soon as is possible.
