Complications after gallbladder surgery

I was diagnosed with gall stones in 2007, I was pregnant at the time so I followed up regularly with a GI doctor. He put me on Nexium and told me if I experienced pain to go to the ER. I continued to have gallbladder pain every so often but in February of 2009, I was admitted into the hospital and they were going to do my surgery. When the surgeon got in he said my anatomy was different and he had to do an open surgery. When I woke up there was a tube draining liver bile out of my body. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and had the tube in place for about a month. Everything seemed to be fine but about a month ago I began to experience nausea and bloating, my doctor had an ultrasound done, and something irregular showed up. So they decided to have me get an MRI done, turns out there is a stone lodged in the common bile duct. My question is could this stone be from my gall bladder or could it be a new stone?? Thank you for taking time to review this question.

they sometimes recommend to take bile salts post surgery

they also have pharmaceutical bile salts if you prefer that

This will prevent the formation of new stones

.............I should add, however, that the size of the stone might be an indicator of just how long that stone has 'been' there. If it's 'sludge-sized', that's one thing. But if this is a stone of significant size, it's probably residual from your surgery considering your surgery was only done a few months ago.

It unfortunately could be due to the previous issues, or you could have formed a new stone - both are known to happen. However, if you were fine until just a short time ago, it would suggest that you formed a new stone.
