Constant Diarrhea

Should I be concerned if I have had loose bowels for 7 days?  It began as soft stools that were stringy and progressed to really constant diarrhea.  I have some discomfort but not terrible.  I got very nauseated and felt terrible three nights ago but not since then.  I am not on any new meds or know of anything that could have made me sick.  It just doesn't seem to be getting any better.  Terrible odor!

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  You probably just got the stomach flu.  However, with this going on for a week now I would recommend making an appointment with your doctor to get checked out.

Thank you for responding to my question.  I did think about that but it hasn't followed a pattern to make me think it is that.  I thought it was food poisoning but it doesn't seem to be improving.  I don't have any real pain w/it.  Just feel urgency when I go to the bathroom.  I drink a lot of water so I am not dehydrated.  I am on vacation until next Thursday.  If not better, I will make an appointment.  Again thanks for the information.

I still have diarrhea after two weeks.  I made an appt. w/my doctor for Friday.  I will let you know what I find out.

My doctor said there is a new virus that lasts several weeks.  He gave me Methonidozole for 10 days.  He said it was difficult to stop if you didn't know whether it was viral, bacterial or parasite.  I had to take in stool samples(NOT PLEASANT)  I go back the 26th.  Pass this on to anyone who is having these problems and they will have to get medication to stop it!  Thanks for all your help!
