I have constant GERD. I have been treated with Prilosec for 8 years, and the amount has had to be increased several times over the years. I am now taking 40 mg of Prilosec in the morning and 40 mg Prilosec in the evening. This has not been helping me, so I am now also taking Zantac 150 mg h.s. in addition to the 40 mg of Prilosec b.i.d. The head
of my bed is on 2 x 4s to keep it elevated, and I sleep on 3 pillows at night. I have GERD all the time: Before meals, after meals, in between meals, and while sleeping. The acid comes up into the back of my throat
. I have been tried on other medications, but these are the ones on my insurance formulary that seem to work the best for me. I have had 2 upper endoscopies over the years, which did not show any issues. During both of those EGDs, I had dilatation
of the esophagus. My question is: What is my next step? Are there other noninvasive forms of treatment or am I probably looking at surgery? I just started a new job and will not have insurance for 90 days, so I have made an appointment to see my gastroenterologist in 3-1/2 months. What specific questions should I ask him?
Ask him about low stomach acid, possible food allergies, food intolerances, maybe just simply high stomach acid. If I were you I would try out some natural remedies for all these problems, because all that medication is not good for you. How are your stools, normal?
