Constant pain in stomach & back

by myadidas1981, Aug 13, 2009 05:34PM
I'll start this by saying I haven't quite been myself going on a full year now. I've been seeing my gastroenterologist since last September to try and diagnose some stomach and back pain I've been having, and I've been through the whole gamut of tests (CAT scan on lower abdomen, upper GI X-ray, colonoscopy, numerous blood tests), and nothing's shown anything conclusive (the colonoscopy did show evidence of mild colitis, but my doctor didn't seem too concerned about it, and my blood tests regularly show elevated bilirubin, but not highly enough to cause concern). Needless to say, I've been getting very frustrated.

Well, just recently, things have started getting worse. I used to have pain mostly underneath the middle of my sternum, underneath the left side of my ribcage and around my back underneath my ribs back there. But now I've been having a steady burning pain in the middle of my belly, too. It gnawed at me for five straight hours yesterday, and I could only sleep half of the night because I kept waking up with the pain and feeling very bloated, but I couldn't make a bowel movement.

Here's a list of my symptoms:
-Pain underneath left ribcage and middle of sternum
-Pain in the middle of belly near the naval
-Pain around back near backside of ribcage, sometimes lower
-Pain in chest when I stretch or try to turn my torso too far
-Occasional tiny spots of bright-red blood in my stool
-Lots of mucous in my stool

I'm scheduled to go into my doctor on Thursday, but I was wondering if anyone had any educated guesses as to what's wrong with me so I can better direct my doctor for what to check next. My wife's having a baby in about a month, and I want to get to the bottom of what's wrong with me once and for all so I can be healthy for my kid.

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Congrats on the new baby! Well the Blood in urine could be from Crohn's or Colitis. Did your doctor give you an antibiotic or anti inflammatory for the mild Colitis? Have you had a EDG to check for Ulcers or Gastritis in your stomach for the burning sensation you have been having in middle upper abdomen? I would see a Gastrolnterologist for to have more test.  Also, you can also try an over the counter probiotic  you can buy at any drug store like walgreens.  It will help put some good bacteria in your intestines which could help with the mild colitis and it helps with diarrhea and constipation.
