Constipation and rectal tearing

Ok, so this is pretty gross so, I apologize in advance. I have suffered from this for about a year and a half now. I will get extremely bloated and constipated yet have no urge to go at all. I have gone 10 days with no urge to have a bowel movement. When I finally do go I rip and tear so bad that I am convinced I will pass out from it. I have to hold onto whatever is around and hope that it is over soon. It usually take almost 45 minutes when this happens. I notice that it feels like I have something that is laying over my anus so that it is being blocked though it is not actually happening. I also know that when this happens the waste is pushing so hard on my perinium(spelling?) that it get little skin tears from the pressure though not actually busting through. There is always tons of blood when this happens and obviously I end up getting horrid hemrrhoids. It usually takes a week to start to recover form this. I am also left with a horrible feeling of bruising in my lower abdoman. When it starts I get awful bloating, and pain that raidiates all over my stomach and then when it gets really bad I get pan that starts to radiate all over my low back and get extremely painful to walk. I have had it get so bad that I literally was wearing maternity clothes because my stomach was huge and i looked pregnant. I have gained weight because I can't go correctly. I have had a colonoscopy done and it came back fine. I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing  a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow. And then it seems that my period is allowed to flow freely. Is there anyway this can go habnd in hand? If so, what could this be? Has anybody ever heard of this?

If all else fails................... (Short term solution only)

Full dose of milk of magnesia. (over the counter blue bottle)

After taking that for 2 days you will be flowing. Not a long term solution like the fiber drinks. May not go the first day. Took me 2 days to have a movement but then it kept on working. Kept working for 24 hours after I stopped using it. Then I was plugged right back up until I took it again.

I would probably do it 3 times a day maybe 4 if needed. You will know what works. Takes 2 days to get flowing. I'm on day 4 now and things are flowing much better. My IBS irritation is still painful and I still get gas. But one thing at a time. My constipation is gone!!! 10 years of it and I could do nothing to stop it. I tried all of these fibers and laxatives and more with no luck. I never mixed them together until this week. Totally different results mixed. I so hope this helps you.

Aww. Been there, still there now. Just had my colonoscopy. I found that ant-acids have been helping the gas. They somehow make their way to my colon. As far as pooping I finally got bad enough that I couldn't go because the poop was larger than the opening that seem to close off and not let anything out.

I learned that the more I tried to go the tighter my muscles in my colon would get. I could not go from eating foods and the gas would bloat and come back up my small intestine and burp up. PAINFUL. Feels like throwing up all the time.

The stuff at the bottom sounds like hemorrhoids. They come in all shapes and sized. They bleed. They happen from pushing.

I took Amitiza and lots of laxatives, still could not go. But oddly I mixed them all together and they started working. I don't take Amitiza now just a mix of laxatives and Fiber.

I was also mixing in Metamucil Powder but started to get too much bloating so I just cut that one out. Also cut back on Citrucel.

I take now all mixed together. I had to step it up to 3 times a day now.
2 rounded tsp Miralax Powder
4 rounded tsp Benefiber Powder
2 rounded tsp Citricel Powder

I was so surprised to see that this combination is working. I keep changing the mixtures but mixing them together is totally different then taking them one at a time.

Before I was doing
2 rounded tsp Metamucil Powder
2 rounded tsp Miralax Powder
2 rounded tsp Benefiber Powder
2 rounded tsp Citricel Powder

Careful with Citricel as before I used 4 tbsp but it started to constipate me. Actually you don't need the Citricel at all. I use it to bind the poo together to clean me out better. It doesn't seem to make anything softer but it picks up the loose stuff to carry it out. If you want just mush try only

2 rounded tsp Metamucil Powder
2 rounded tsp Miralax Powder
2 rounded tsp Benefiber Powder
no Citrucel.

I hope one of these 3 mixtures helps you. Each one does something differently and helps another.

You can read my post if you want to about how each one affects me.

I hope maybe some of this could help you too. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I went from that to going 3 times a day practically over night once I started mixing them together. Take with enough water so it is not thick when you drink.

The problem I ran into was Miralax and Amitiza put enough water in my stool but it still didn't slide out. Still was stuck. The fiber backfired and caused more constipation. But mixing the stuff that held water with the fiber did it. I also had to learn to let it happen and not push. But it's really coming out now!!!!!!! over 10 years of struggling for hours a day and not boom!!!! I am going 3 times a day now. Well it's only been good for 4 days so far about but thats how long I've been doing these mixed drinks. I hope they keep doing this forever. Time for another mixed drink. Send me a message as PM on here if this helps. You would need to stay on the drinks every day to stay regular but increase around the time of the month you expect it to get worst. :)

I have some problems when my period is due too, but not as bad as you. Sounds like a bowel obstruction! I know symptoms like you described can be related to your ovaries so I would have an ultrasound to make sure everything is okay, especially with heavy periods.

I had similar problems with constipation especially when it was my time of the month.  I had an abnormal pap smear and asked the doc if I could just get a hysterectomy instead  of doing treatment since I was older and finished having children.  She said yes.  The surgery was supposed to be laproscopic vaginal but when she got in there, my uterus was attached to my bladder with scar tissue, my colon and left ovary were completely intangled in scar tissue.  She had to open my up next to an old c-section scar.  They removed my left ovary, tube, uterus.  My left side lower abdominal pain left after this surgery.  I don't know if it was just because I didn't have periods anymore or the untangling of my colon.  You might want to see if there is some type of test where they can see how much scar tissue  you have due to pelvic inflammatory disease.

Yep and yep. actually those were all things I did prior to the gastrointerologist. He was me and my doctors last resort. It finally got to the point where I was sitting in my docs office crying because I was hurting so bad from the bloating.
I promise I am not a big ol' whiner! LOL! I acually have a very high tolerance for pain I just let it go for too long and then it becomes a problem or i have tried to get help and have been brushed off.
I will google megacolon. I have not heard of that. Thank you so much for at least being here for someone to talk to. I really appreciate it.

IDK, try googling megacolon. That may provide ansewrs or rule out some fears. Have you tried to change your diet and increase your fiber? Any natural laxatives?

Also, I wanted to add that I have an enormous BM when I do hae one after this. I am talking huge. And I am sorry to be so graphic but it is also very big and roundish when it comes out. and hard. and then it gets really runny. I am not meaning to be funny here at all but it is like getting rid of a cannon ball. For real. Why does this happen? Is there anything I can do to make it stop?

Actually nothing. I haven't gotten any feedback on it. Just that everything appears normal. However, when I was at my exam he was pushing around on my stomach and told me that he thought I had an abnormally shaped uterus. I followed up with my GYN and she said it was fine that I did not have an abnormally shaped uterus. The only thing we found was that one little cyst. The amitiza is hellpng out really well with it until that time of the month comes rolling around and then it starts all over again. I basically have this "unexplained" constipation. *sigh* :)

It just seems that your symptoms are severe. What does your doctor say about it. I'd wonder if there is something pushing against your colon to cause the constipation. I'm sure a CT and US scan would rule out a mass of some sort.
I asked about your mestrual bleeding because I was thinking maybe uterine fibroids.

They are very heavy. I have had CT scans and US. I have a cyst now that has not gone away. It has been there for about a year now. I had a Cyst and a blood clot and ovarian torsion in 2003. I had the full on surgery to repair it. Cut me open just like they would for a c section. But, yes, my periods are very heavy and I get a lot of cramping. and I seem to bloat and have a lot more water retention than I believe to be normal. Maybe it's just me. but I will literally gain between 5 and 7 pounds during that time of the month.

I'm not an expert but have some medical knowledge. Are your periods normal or extremely heavy? Have you had a CT scan?
