Continuing diarrhea with mucus after antibiotic

Wife had skin graft on diabetic foot wound 8/24, then she was put on antibiotic. Two-three days later she started having diarrhea with mucus. Has now been off antibiotic for six days, and has been getting  lots of yogurt with active cultures.Lever of diarrhea fluctuates up and down, but no end to it is in sight. Worst is every 5 -10 minutes. Sometimes dark, sometimes yellow-brown. Not much smell. Extreme levels of mucus.  Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks.     CTBear.

I would check for c diff with stool sample first which is antibiotic associated diarrheah. It usually causes severe diarrheah and sometimes intestinal colitis. I would go to er and get  test for it since this can lead to dehydration fast.  Makes sure she is drinking a lot and replacing electrolytes with pedialyte gatorade or something similar.  If this is it usually a round or two of flagyl will cure it if not they can give oral vancocin. Continue with the yogurt and a probiotic like culturelle , florastor or align.   If this is not the cause then er will determine the best course of action.  They will probably do more tests and refer you for followup or more tests with a GI doc.
