Could I have esophageal cancer

Could I have esophageal cancer

I am a 32 year old male. I had pain in my neck and throat in July and went to an ENT specialsit who suggested I take omeprazole 40 mg BID. One month later as the symptoms continued I had an endoscopy done, and the doctor thought he saw something in the mid esophageal region and took biosies which came back normal. I have since developed a mild pain behind the sternum and for the past 2 weeks have been having a pain just below the sternum (in the xyphoid region). I have been drinking for about 11 years and smoked for 6 years. I stopped smoking 2 months ago. My question is given the symptoms and history is it possible I have esopahgeal or stomach cancer.
Thank you for your help.

With the presence of negatives on biopsies it would be unusual to have esophageal cancer. You may want to get hold of the endoscopy notes, the biopsy notes and the doc's notes and read through them. They may tell you more about what's going on, which kind of sounds like you may be experiencing something like gastritis. If it is gastritis, you need to seriously think about cutting out alcohol. Not only is it rough on the stomach, but your liver may not appreciate 11 years of trying to detoxify the alcohol and keep your system working properly.
