Could this be constipation or a food allergy?

On Friday, I started feeling this random pain in my lower left abdomen that felt like a gas bubble. It went away by Saturday but then on Sunday I felt the same pain but on my right side. The pain was near my belly button and would come and go. On Tuesday I decided to call my doctor and tell them what was happening. They told me it could be something with my bowel movements and that I would be referred to a gastroenterologist. My doctor also told me to keep a food journal which I have been doing all week. I haven't heard back from my doctor yet so that is why I am posting something on here in the meantime.

Yesterday morning after taking milk of magnesia Tuesday night, I had green diarrhea. I didn't have any other bowel movement all day. Today I've had two bowel movements but after eating some wonderful shepherds pie I had made last night I'm getting cramps again. This time though, it feels like it's above my belly button under my right breast in my mid abdomen. It keeps moving though so it's really hard to pin point where the pain is coming from. One thing my mother had told me not to do was to not eat any diary products and see if that would help. I haven't had any diary products since except for the milk in the mashed potatoes I made last night. I don't have any food allergies (as far as I know) but I hope what's going on with me isn't linked to an allergy to milk or wheat which I eat all the time. No one in my family has food allergies though. I have been eating a lot of wheat which I do anyways and neither wheat nor milk has ever given me problems before. I just don't understand why this started and what's going on with me. All I can tell you though is I'm very scared because I've always been such a healthy person my whole life.

Is anyone on here had similar constipation as I'm describing and what was your diagnosis? Is anyone on here allergic to milk or wheat and how did you know you were?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  Because this has been going for less than a week, I doubt it is any sort of food allergy.  I think you should give it some more time, eat healthy, and wait for your appointment with your gastroenterologist.
