Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome or SOD? Anybody with knowledge on this please respond.

I had read a post a while back about SOD and how it mimics Cyclic Vomiting. Can someone please give me some input on what SOD is and in what way it mimics Cyclic or if these two syndromes are in any way related. It would be greatly appreciated. I have a friend that has a son that has been dignosed with cyclic but when I saw the post as first mentioned I read that SOD very well could mimic cyclic. If not SOD is anybody aware of any other syndromes to look for that might mimic cyclic symptoms? Her son is severely disabled which makes him even more medical fragile.

Thank you in advance.    :-)

Wow I have to say, I have gotten some great feedback in other communities in the past on medhelp.org but am disappointed that I posted this within this community two times with the last time being on July 11th and have not gotten any responses at all. Yes Cyclic can be a complicated thing but it is here at medhelp.org that I did in fact learn of the possibility that Cyclic and SOD might be linked in some way. I am gathering that its a great possibility that the one person with knowledge about these disorders just has not seen the post. I say this of course knowing that its a hit and miss situation. I suppose I will keep doing my research elsewhere to gain the knowledge in the effort to help a child that is 15 and is severely disabled (Diagnosed as having Cyclic).

SOD can present with a great deal of vomiting. However, there are more components to SOD with include symptoms that resemble a full-scale gallbladder attack, alternation in bowel habit and a number of other problems. You can see an overview of SOD at: http://hopkins-gi.nts.jhu.edu/pages/latin/templates/index.cfm?pg=disease1&organ=3&disease=12&lang_id=1

I was looking for something for myself (having a lot of gut problems but every test is coming up normal, GI is leaning towards CVS) and stumbled upon this.  It is a great help because my wife had her gallbladder removed last year and over the past several months has had pain just like it.  Went back to her surgeon and he ordered a MRCP which came back normal.  I would guess if its not more or less flared up at the time the MRCP is done then the MRCP would come back normal.
