DISTENDED ABDOMEN

I have been suffering with an intolerance to dairy products and lentils from the mid-nineties. Many remedies for IBS were tried, and they would work for a while, then stop working. I have bouts of constipation alternating with diarhoea, but I cannot pass a stool without drinking at least three glasses of water followed by a cup of Herbalife tea. Then I might pass a normal stool or I might pass about 4 to 5 diarhoea-like stools. In August 2008, at age 46, I had a partial hysterectomy for fibroids. Then in June 2009, I had the left ovary and fallopian tube removed laproscopically, due to ovarian cysts. The bowel was also cut since there was bowel adhesion. I avoid getting constipated since the bowel was interfered with so I take 1 Soflax to ensure that I pass a stool. My tummy works in much the same way as before, sometimes normal, sometimes diarhoea. However, for about two weeks now, my abdomen gets increasingly distended during the course of the day and the distension progresses with each meal so that after supper, I look hugely pregnant. My GP has sent me in for scans and X-Rays. I have no cysts, no adhesions, my gallbladder and kidneys are normal. Only my liver has a bit of fatty infiltration. He put me on Bevispas again, yet it was tried before. My left pelvic area hurts intermittently. I don't know if the pain after cutting the bowel is normal. Does anyone have any advice? Tilly

I think it is highly unlikely you don't have any adhesions.  Perhaps the scan is just not picking them up.  I had my bladder burned and later cut because of endometriosis and now I have interstitial cystitis.  And I believe I have external pain of my bladder as well due to those previous surgeries on it.  I guess you didn't have extra fluid in the peritoneal cavity either with those scans?

I can suggest strongly looking at PH levels and see if you are off. I am not sure of your medical history or other conditions - but internally your hormones could be off - especially with your surgery you had done. A really good hormone doctor - preferrable Intergrative could really dig into those labs and find cortisol - thyroid - progesterone levels are unstable and could be making things get worse for you. Another topic would be to look at liver toxicities and maybe offer a cleanse ( mild) for you to try to bee if your filteration may be off.

If you have these symptoms appearing soon after you take dairy foods, one thing must analysed is that your sensitivity to other foods like milk, cheese, curd, yogurt. When you said that these symptoms been associated with the intake of food(mostly dairy products or foods similar to them),then it can be Lactose Intolerance.Has anyone in your family suffered from similar symptoms as soon as they take certain dairy products or food items similar to them?
But how ever it cant be confirmed at this moment because that your digestive problems could be of many reasons. So meet your Doc immediately and let the following tests done-
Hydrogen Breath Test with chromatographic report,Stool Acidity test,if possible and needed, intestinal biopsy also.
