Delayed Gastric Emptying

Delayed Gastric Emptying

I had a gastric bypass in 2003 and had good results and no problems until 2007.  I took naproxen sodium for a headache in 2007 and as a result ended up in the emergency room with a bleeding ulcer.  After the bleeding ulcer was repaired, I started having periodic problems with nausea and vomiting due to food not going down.  However, 2 months ago it got much worse.  I have had nausea and vomiting for the last two months along with alternating constipation and diarrhea.  I had a gastric emptying study and it showed up as delayed.  However, when they tried Reglan, I could not tolerate it due to the side effects.  I'm not sure where to turn. The Gastroenteroligist said that Reglan is the only medicine approved in the Unitied States but there was one available in Canada, Mexico or Europe but he could not prescribe it.  He also said I should consider going to the Mayo Clinic but I don't know if I can afford that.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can try to get the medication through Canada, many people do.

You may also want to try following a diet that's suggested for those with gastroparesis. Gicare.com used to have some general suggestions on what to eat and they may still be posted on the site if you weren't given dietary suggestions previously.
