Desperate help for constipation

For the past couple of months I have been very constipated along with feeling bloated.  I was admitted in hospital to rule out bowel obstruction. All of my tests, colonoscopy, lower bowel follow through, upper and lower GI studies and all negative results. Dr. told me I had a lazy colon and to drink three caps full of milk of magnesium, which I have been doing daily and still I have one or two watery bowel movement.  After eating I immediately fill like I am constipated and bloated with pain. Can anyone help me and tell me what else I can do because I don't want to have to take MOM for the rest of my life and still have to deal with the feeling of constipation, bloating and pain.

I have tried a high fiber diet and drinking plenty of water and it made me feel worse.  I forgot to mention I had a gastric bypass in 1999 and wondering if that could be part of the problem.  Now after taking so much Milk of Magnesium I am feeling tire and sluggish and the pain is still there. It also appears that the MOM is not working as good as it used to. Any more suggestions that could possibly help me for as I said all of my tests have come back negative.

You could try acidophilus daily. That worked better for me.

It is necessary for you to control your constipation by taking proper medical help and if it is not cured by anything then it needs to consult with a doctor as, it is very important for us to avoid all such food like eating junk food which is unhealthy and results in various forms of gastric diseases.

That is why we want to eat fresh and organic vegetables and it is very important for us to drink maximum water .

Thanks

I would encourage you to try and avoid laxatives on which you might eventually become dependent or which might eventually become ineffective.

Have you tried a very high fibre diet - for example:-

- pulverised fresh vegetables to which organic bran has been added
- pulverised fresh fruit to which organic bran has been added
- only organic wholemeal bread
- no junk food, white bread, colas etc etc
- drink two litres of water per day.

In the event that after a periods of time (years??) nothing works there are cases mentioned on Medhelp where a total colectomy has been considered for long term chronic constipation.
