An ultrasound shows negative for gall stones, but gallbladder wall has thickened.
Im am getting an Heptobiliary scan with CCK challenge tommorrow (monday) and on thursday I am scheduled for an EGD. I havent gotten any bloodwork taken, (seems like they should have??)
I would like to ad that these pains are pretty much constant, not stop. Some times I get sharper pains. It has basically changed from always dull upper right quad pain to sometimes upper right quad pain but now constant sharper middle back pain.
The pain will last for 5-6 days, then go away for a day or 2 then return for another 5-6 days, repeating.
You believe its gall bladder tho I have no stones? What my doctor said is the ultrasound is about 95% negative. He said that theres not stones and it means negative but hes benn "burned" by that before.
I guess if its gall bladder they will be able to tell tomm. when the do the scan with CCK challenge.?
Your u/s was not negative you had wall thickening. And you don't have to have stones to have problems. You could have sludge, but you need a really good tech/radiologist to be able to see if.
The HIDA scan with CCK injection will tell you if your ejection fraction is reduced. If it is significantly reduced, it could indicate that you're gallbladder is malfunctioning and you may need to have it removed.
However, if the EJ is not significantly reduced, you may want to talk to your doc about the possiblity of having underlying biliary spasms - and also ask if any sludge was seen.
Liver and pancreatic enzymes should be checked to find out if the condition - whatever it is - is having any impact on either your liver or your pancreas. It would be a good idea to find that out even if your EJ is normal and you have no stones.
I had my HIDA scan with CCK and I was told by the person adminstering the test that my gall bladder seemed fine. (havent had a meeting with my doctor yet, that wont for about 2 weeks!) I am scheduled for an EGD on thursday.
I was recently given a Hyoscyamine prescrpition to treat spasms and it is completely ineffective. I am starting to think that the problem could be hernia related? I have no sigs of an external hernia thats exposed, but maybe hiatal? Would all other hernias be detectable by feeling for them?
I will ask to have my live and pancreatic enzymes checked, I am kind of pissed that my blood wasnt taken before I've been to the doctors office 3 times and also had 2 tests performed and still no blood test.
I'm in the same boat as you. Upper right quadrant pain that radiates to the back at times, on and off nausea, normal ultrasound and had my hida yesterday that gave ef% of 86 and 95.
My upper right quadrant pain is now turning out to be more back pain than anything (though it is not from a back injury) and is also starting pains in my left side at times, and throughout my bowels at times.
Its almost a burning pain in my back thats the most consistent, and some chest pressure at times. This is so frustrating.
I have not had any nausea or bowel movement problems though.
