Diarrhea after gallbladder surgery

I had gallbladder removed in August.  I was warned about diarrhea but told it would be temporary.  Food tasted funny, too salty.  Even my daughter's wedding cake tasted salty.  So I thought since I wasn't enjoying my food anyway I might as well try dieting. No more than 1000 calories a day, mostly fruit and vegetables.  By Thanksgiving I hadn't lost a single pound so I started eating normally again.  Lost 3 pounds right away.

Diarrhea has been continuous since the surgery at least 4 to 5 times a day within minutes of eating.  I try not to eat to avoid the problem.

So I have 2 questions: 1) when should I bring the continuing diarrhea to the attention of my doctor? 2) Why didn't the strict diet combined with the diarrhea cause weight loss?

I was wondering if your problem got resolved?  My husband is constantly going to the bathroom - never finishes a meal!  He is tired and is very frustrated...

Talk to your doctor now, don't wait. I wish I could even suggest why a strict diet did nothing, but it sometimes seems that 'bodies' have a mind of their own and the 'rules of logic' don't always apply.
