Diarrhea and weight loss in 14 year boy

Hi. Hope someone can help.. My 14 year son has had chronic diarrhea for the past 3 months.. In that time hes los a total of 17lbs. He has had an upper GI series and found that his duodenum is slightly inflamed. His gastro specialist thinks he could have a peptic ulcer or parasites. He has been tested for giardia and cyclospora through his stool which came back normal each time. His regular pediatrician has put hime on a high carb diet which has helped and has gained back about 7lbs. His specialist though wants him off it. I have done this and now he is beginning to lose weight again and the diarrhea has gotten worse. I have noticed that anytime he eats meat the diarrhea occurs. He also has abdomial (abdominal) pain around his navel. Could this be a sign of an ulcer? Any answers will help.
