Diarrhea?

by illiniparrots, May 14, 2008 07:04AM
Have any of you had diarrhea?  Mine started the morning of 5/8/08 around 6 am.  I also felt like throwing up but nothing came out.  I woke up that day tasting or feeling acid.  I had eaten pizza 5/7/08 around 6 pm.  It had pepperoni and green peppers.  I hadn't had that from that restaurant before but it seemed ok.  Not my favorite - won't be ordering it again.  I also had back pain that radiated up my back below the shoulder joints and in front up to the top of the ribs.  Really bad pain.  I have never had pain like that in the past with diarrhea so it seemed abnormal.  I had to leave work.

A nurse from the emergency called me concerned about my bilirubin being elevated.  My dr Dr. Brian Early of Carle, who I have historically thought was the greatest thing ever wasn't even going to mention it to me.  I am starting to get the impression that he also thinks he is the greatest thing ever.   Anyway, he said that it is not gallbladder unless the pain is in that one specific area on the right side.  He has no previous test to compare my current blood test to and has not done any other tests.  He thinks that it could possibly be Gilbert's Syndrome but he is not sure.  I am not saying it is or it isn't.  I just want to rule out 100% that it is not.  He made no offer of future tests.

They did do a fecal test a day after I had been in the emergency room but there was no bacteria in that.  I am disappointed that other tests were not run on that sample.  They refused to do any virus testing.  The excuse was that there are too many to test for.  I think the most common would have been a good place to start.  They act as if they are paying for our care, as if they are serving themselves.  I feel disrespected.  IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A  BAD VIRUS AND NOT GET A FEVER AT ANY POINT??  I think it may be but have never heard of that and have not experienced that before.

Lots of watery diarrhea.  Sometimes with a white film on the top of the water.  Most often a color that seemed like a mix of brown / green / and grey or white. The pain I mentioned above.  I threw up a lot Saturday morning even though I did not have anything in me.  Not sure where my body pulled it from.  I threw up when I woke up and had a horrible acid taste in my mouth and could feel it burning in my chest or stomach as well.  Bad strange taste in my mouth.  Every time I have gone to the bathroom I have also rinsed my mouth out but it doesn't last long.  Sunday just a small amout of diarrhea.  However, the gas started in.  Horrible rumbling.  Lots of gas, bloating, discomfort.  Light headed / foggy headed / tired.  This continued thru Monday.  Dr. Early just said that maybe that was happening because I was nervous.  I wasn't nervous.  I recognize my emotions and feelings better than most.  My symptoms had nothing to do with my feelings.

Today is Wednesday, almost one week since it started.  I feel much better this morning.  I still cannot eat very much or I feel over full and it bothers me.  That is combined with the acid.  I definitely cannot drink any pop at all.  It burns me right up!  I think it sounds good and I want it and sometimes try it but its like drinking acid.  Ouch!  Are these typical signs of a virus?  I am so confused.

Even if I had a virus I would have had to come into contact with someones infected fecal matter to get it according to what I have read.  So to me that would still be a form of food poisoning.

Now I am wondering if I should look for a different doctor and ask for a few tests concerning the elevated bilirubin.   Just as a precaution.  I have heard problems handling it can be inherited and my Mother had hers out when she was my age.  I would rather prevent and head any potential problems off immediately rather than wait and let them go.
