Diastasis recti abdominis?

Diastasis recti abdominis?

I had a child about 2 years ago.  I've been keeping in shape inconsistently, but am at a normal weight for my height.  Ever since I've tried to get my stomach back in shape though, I've had these odd sensations occasionally when I do sit-ups.  I get an uncomfortable tightening and pulling in the area in the center of the upper abdomen around the xiphoid process just under the ribs about the size of the palm of my hand.  It's nothing like I've ever felt before.  It almost feels like my organs are being pulled in one direction.  I have to sit or lie still until it passes.  It's very disturbing to me, and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be.  I'm starting to get more concerned about it.  I'm not going to do anymore sit-ups because I'm afraid that I might be making whatever this is worse.

I've heard about diastasis recti abdominis which is where the rectus abdominal muscle separates during pregnancy, and I wonder if I could have that. However, that was almost 2 years ago.  I would have thought that there would be other symptoms or complications by now. I don't see any protruding lumps either.  I don't think any type of hernia could be that high up, could it?  I've never experienced anything even close to this before my pregnancy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Just wondering if you ever got diagnosed for your abdominal issues?  I was in a similar situation for 4 years after pregnancy.  I had chronic back pain and some abdominal pain and incontinence at times.  I finally just had my diastasis surgically repaired and it turns out that I also had an umbilical hernia.  My diastasis was a lot larger than the therapists had diagnosed.  None of my docs found the hernia but it was small so I am not sure how that is diagnosed, probably through an abdominal x-ray.  I guess my suggestion would be to get the abdominal x-ray.  I never had one but it would be able to catch hernias and see how much the muscles are separated.  Hope this helps.
