Did I have a hemorrhoidectomy today?

I had a severely thrombosed hemorrhoid and went to a surgeon this afternoon. She did a procedure right there. Numbed me with local anesthetic and proceeded to remove the clots and finished with 3 sutures. I was told that I would feel better in 48 hours and sent home to sit on ice.

Within an hour of getting home I was in excruciating pain. It was worse then when I went in the first time. I checked down there and it looked like the thrombosed hemorrhoid was back and 3 times the original size. So I managed to drive back to the surgeon. She said it was very swollen (she actually said she'd never seen such severe swelling before) but that she couldn't remove all that tissue in the office and that I would need to go to an OR. I have two small children so I couldn't just go off to the OR so she numbed me up again and said she got all the swelling back down but that it would most likely come back. So I was sent home with percocets to manage the pain and the hope that overnight the swelling would go down and stay down.

After reading up on this more I'm not sure if what I had today was considered a hemorhroidectomy or not. I thought that a hemorrhoidectomy was much more involved than what I had but am not sure now.

Any insight on all this swelling? Am I just postponing the inevitable and will need the surgery? (I'm already swollen again but not as bad as earlier today.)
