Did I really need fundoplacation surgery.

Did I really need fundoplacation surgery.

To this day I think my acid reflux was caused by some other underlying problem, because even with the laproscopic surgery I am still bloated. I really don't think I needed this surgery, all I know is after giving birth I was diagnosed with a hiatel hernia and GERD,but I had so much bloating that I kept pushing for this surgery I heard about and the Doctors were all to happy to do it. Shouldn't they have just fixed the hernia since it was due to pregnancy. As much as I try to lose weight my stomach stays bloated, and it seems to be affecting my legs with venous insufficiency since I have never had problems with my legs before. Among other things I am diabetic now, and have a fatty liver. I try to control the diabetes with meds and diet, but I think its all connected somehow. I would have the surgery reversed, because it wasn't much help, and I do notice I can't vomit anymore. I would recommend no one do this surgery unless its really needed, because I don't feel that Doctors really know what is going on. They need to listen more, and ask more questions. Do we really know the outcome of this surgery in a few years.

Since having the fundoplication surgery 2 months ago, I have constant gas that is absolutely the most putrid smell that I have every smelled in my life. This gas was supposed to last 1-2 weeks and everything would be ok according to my doctor.  I cannot go out in public, church, or any other activity because of this issue.  I am a hemodialysis tech and I have not been able to go back to work with this gas happening all the time.  My patients and co-workers would absolutely be bombarded by this gas and possibly make them sick to their stomach.  This is no laughing matter - it is serious, and my doctor is telling me it will get better in time. Also, GasX does not take care of this problem either (my doctor recommended that I just take it and I would be better). I don't know what he means by that, but for over 2 months should be enought time. It is a constant problem that lasts all day and all night.  I had the surgery done to correct my reflux and the damage it had done to my esophagus, and I also had a hiatal hernia which was fixed during the surgery.  I was in better shape before this surgery.  I have also had serious pain in my right side just below and up in my rib cage and at the top of my stomach which makes me double over in pain.  Now my doctor thinks something may be wrong with my gallbladder.  I have had an ultrasound done which did not show any signs of gallbladder stones.  Now I have to have another test on my gallbladder where they fill your gall bladder with a liquid which is equal to a very fatty meal to see how my gallbladder functions in releasing this liquid to see if it is flushing out the fatty toxins in my gallbladder or leaking or if it is just diseased.
This has been the most horrible medical experience I have ever had.  If I had it to do over again I would never have had it done and just dealt with the reflux, however, that could cause esophagal cancer and I would not want to deal with that either.  So I am a very miserable person at this moment and would like feedback from anyone who may have experienced these same type of problems from this surgery.
