after 3 bouts of diverticulitis in 3 months. The surgery went well and I have been home now for 3 weeks. The doctor said to increase my fiber slowly, but I am scared to increase it too much. What type of diet should I be on now? Is Weight Watchers a good diet to follow now? What about nuts, seeds, and beans? Those were things I was told to avoid before the surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
sources of fiber. Ways to gradually increase your fiber with a this type of condition might be best to do so by using whole grains. Gradually add in cooked, not raw vegetables and fruits. See how your system tolerates that after a few weeks. If all goes well you may think about adding other types of fibers, but things that are always going to be harder to digest are beans, seeds, nuts, and raw vegetables. Weight watchers is great if you're trying to loose weight and eat a balanced
diet, but it does not offer a way to gradually increase your fiber, and often times uses bars which are hard to digest and can have a lot of fiber with them. What may be a good idea if you have the time and money is to consult with a dietician. He/she can come up with the best meal plans for you. The surgery should help with the diverticulitis and control its symptoms, and you should definitiely expect to feel releif and be able to enjoy more foods with less side effects. Good luck and best wishes.
