Discompfort after eating

I can't eat anything without feeling a discomfort of bloating and pain under right rib area. It doesn't matter what I eat either , the discomfort has gotten so bad that I almost do not want to eat period, I have not gained any weight but then I haven't lost any either, my stomach swells up also. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

I've heard that sometimes an ultrasound doesn't always pick up on the gallstones so you should really try different kind of tests.

Just a thought on scheduling tests: Many times I've been able to schedule these kinds of tests on a weekend.  Sometimes I'd have to go to a different facility or hospital than the prescribing doctor works with, but it's worth checking into when work hours are an issue.

Jaybay is right.  Push for the hida-scan test.  I wasn't the classic presentation with the right shoulder pain, etc... More like you describe, feeling toxic, bloating, like my food wasn't going anywhere fast.  No stones visible on gallbaldder US.  Hida-scan score of 20.  Good luck.

An ultrasound can only rule out the presence of gallstones.  You can still have an inflamed, poorly functioning gb with no stones present.  You need a nuclear medicine test called a hida scan to evaluate how well your gb is functioning - or not functioning in this case.

The gallbladder's purpose is to store bile that comes from the liver, and eject that bile into the small intestine when you eat a fatty meal.  Bile is what helps your body break down and digest fats.  So, in answer to your question, yes, you will have some major indigestion when the gb isn't functioning properly.  Most people experience bloating and right upper quadrant abdominal pain with gb symptoms.  Also, just due to proximity of various nerves, people will experience odd pain in the right shoulder and shoulder blade areas - particularly after eating.

Until you get the hida scan, try to really scale back on fat in your diet and see if that might reduce some of your symptoms.  No more fast food until you get to the bottom of your trouble!  :-)

Yes - everyone who ever had their gallbladder go south on them.  :-)  You need to see your doc about this one.
